Midlothian, Tx Tour: Exploring a Growing Dallas Suburb - Live Music & Historic Downtown

The video above takes you on a tour through Midlothian, TX — a growing Dallas suburb about 25 miles southwest of Dallas and 40 miles southeast of Fort Worth. With a population now above 40,000, Midlothian has been getting a lot of attention lately, and some folks are even comparing it to Frisco in terms of its growth trajectory. David Bridwell drove into town to play a gig at Twisted Sisters Tap House and spent some time walking the historic downtown strip, capturing the feel of the place on camera.

A Blue Collar Town With a Country Feel

Midlothian has deep roots going back to the mid-1800s. It got its name in the late 1800s when a train engineer thought the area reminded him of Midlothian, Scotland. The railroad helped establish the town, but what really shaped its identity was cement — Midlothian sits next to a 600-year supply of limestone, which brought in cement plants that still serve the DFW real estate market today. That industrial backbone gives the city a working-class character that sets it apart from some of the more polished suburbs in the metroplex. Even as it grows, Midlothian has a slower pace. You'll drive past open fields and green space on your way through the neighborhoods, and the overall vibe is more country lifestyle than suburban sprawl. The historic downtown strip along the main street has a row of older buildings housing restaurants, antique shops, gift stores, and real estate offices. Right off that strip, you can still find the last surviving cabin from the original town colony — a small but real connection to the 1800s settlement.

Where Can You Find Live Music in Midlothian, TX?

Midlothian doesn't have a huge nightlife scene — most people head up to Dallas or Fort Worth for that — but there are a few spots hosting live music right along or near the downtown area:

  • Twisted Sisters Tap House — A bar and tap house on the historic downtown strip where David Bridwell played his gig. It's a laid-back spot with a local crowd and a good atmosphere for catching acoustic sets and solo performers.
  • Branded Burger Company — A burger restaurant on the main strip that books live music from time to time, giving the downtown area some energy on weekend evenings.
  • Pen to Paper — A spot where live music gets advertised periodically, adding another option for catching a performance without leaving town.
  • Union 28 — Located a short drive from downtown Midlothian, this is the bigger venue in the area. It has a lot of space and books well-known Texas artists, making it the go-to spot for catching a bigger show nearby.

Worth the Drive From Dallas

If you're coming from the DFW area, Midlothian is an easy drive with two major highways connecting it to the metroplex. The downtown strip is compact and walkable, so you can grab food, browse the antique shops, and catch some live music all in one evening. During the gig at Twisted Sisters, Catherine and Hun from the Got to Love Texas Music podcast stopped by — a podcast that features Texas music artists and songwriters. It's that kind of scene: small, personal, and connected to the wider Texas music community. Midlothian isn't trying to be a music destination, but for a growing suburb, it's got enough going on to make a night out worth it without driving all the way into the city.
