Live Music in Texas

Pflugerville, Texas Drive: A day trip out to an Austin Suburb

The video above takes you on a drive through Pflugerville, Texas, exploring the downtown area and getting a feel for what this Austin suburb is really about. What started as a quiet community named after German settler Henry Flug — who arrived in 1849 — has grown into a city approaching 70,000 people. David Bridwell stopped through to play some music at a local coffee shop and took the opportunity to walk around and document what's happening in the historic downtown. Pflugerville sits between Austin and Round Rock, which locals joke about by saying the city is "stuck between a rock and a weird place." That in-between location means it sometimes gets overlooked, but the people who live here tend to be genuinely passionate about the place, often calling it simply "the Pflug."

What Live Music Venues Are in Pflugerville, Texas?

Downtown Pflugerville has been going through a real revitalization, and part of that includes a growing live music scene. Walking around the historic downtown, you can find several spots hosting bands and performers:

  • Hanover's Draught Haus — A go-to spot for live bands in downtown Pflugerville, regularly featuring a full lineup of acts across genres
  • The Three-Legged Goat — A downtown hangout with live music and a laid-back neighborhood atmosphere
  • The Whiskey Room — A bar that books bands and adds to the nightlife options along the downtown strip
  • Red Roosters Pub and Grub — A pub with signage advertising live music, contributing to the growing entertainment scene downtown
  • Westpon Coffee and Beer — A casual coffee-and-beer spot that hosts acoustic performers during the day; David Bridwell played a set here on the afternoon captured in the video

These spots are making it so residents don't necessarily have to drive into Austin every time they want a night out with live music. The scene is still developing, but it's already more interesting than most people expect from a suburb.

More Than Just a Bedroom Community

Pflugerville holds onto its German heritage in a few deliberate ways. The Heritage House Museum sits near the center of downtown and preserves the city's roots. The annual Deutschen Pfest, running for over 50 years every October, is the big community celebration that keeps that history alive. There are also parades and smaller festivals throughout the year that give the city its own identity separate from Austin.

Beyond downtown, Pflugerville markets itself as the trail capital of Texas, with over 40 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and walking. You can fish, swim, or paddleboard, and the Northeast Metropolitan Park hosts sports and outdoor activities. Shopping areas like Stone Hill Town Center round things out. You can still drive around parts of the area and spot open fields and cows — a reminder of the quieter lifestyle that defined this place not that long ago. It's an evolving city, and worth checking out if you're exploring the greater Austin area.
