The video above is a solid walkthrough of what's happening in Fort Worth when it comes to live music, honky tonks, and going out at night. David Bridwell hits several neighborhoods across the city, starting in the Stockyards and working through South Main Village, Magnolia Village, and the area near TCU. If you're trying to figure out where to go on a given night, this is a good place to start — Fort Worth has a surprising number of spots spread across different parts of town, each with its own feel and style of music.

Where Are the Best Live Music Venues in Fort Worth?

Fort Worth's live music is spread across a handful of neighborhoods, but the Stockyards area has the highest concentration of venues in one walkable stretch. Beyond that, Magnolia Village and South Main Village both have spots worth checking out. Here's a rundown of the venues featured in the video:

  • Billy Bob's Texas — The world's largest honky tonk, with a massive dance floor, a separate stage for big ticketed acts, live bull riding, pool tables, barbecue, and merch. Ned LeDoux was performing on the big stage during the visit.
  • Lil Red's Longhorn Saloon — A Stockyards landmark with country music, cocktails, a dance floor, and vintage rodeo memorabilia on the walls. Billy Mata and the Texas Tradition were playing western swing here, keeping a tradition going that spans over 40 years of Texas dance halls.
  • Filthy McNasty's Saloon — No cover charge and more of a nightclub atmosphere, especially as it gets later on weekend nights. The Squeezebox Bandits were sharing the stage with other local artists on this visit.
  • Tannahill's Tavern & Music Hall — A major ticketed venue down Mule Alley in the Stockyards with a big stage and plenty of standing room. JJ Grey & Mofro, a southern rock and swamp rock band out of Jacksonville, Florida, were performing here.
  • Distribution Bar — A relaxed South Main Village bar with beer, cocktails, pool tables, a patio, and a Monday night open jazz jam.
  • Boiled Owl — A dark, inviting locals bar in Magnolia Village with live music, karaoke, a pool table, and a patio. Ghost Roper was playing on a weekend night.
  • Gustto's — A Magnolia Village burger joint with smash burgers, tater tots, and happy hour specials that hosts live music, including a Wednesday open mic run by Denver Williams. Two Guys Walking to a Bar were playing the open mic night.
  • John's Grill — A laid-back bar and eatery near the TCU campus with burgers, brisket, margaritas, and occasional live music. Cade Holiday was performing here.
  • Magnolia Motor Lounge — One of the city's key live music rooms, with shows most nights of the week and ticketed weekend performances from popular local and touring bands. The Great Divide, a Red Dirt band out of Stillwater, Oklahoma and members of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, were playing a packed show.
  • Hoot's Whiskey Bar — A spot with pool and dart tournaments, but the real draw is the large dance floor surrounded by tables, where people come out for Texas country dancing to live bands four nights a week. The 76 were playing during this visit.

Getting Around Fort Worth for Live Music

One thing that comes through clearly in the video is that Fort Worth's live music isn't limited to one strip. The Stockyards are the obvious starting point and the easiest area for bar hopping on foot, but neighborhoods like Magnolia Village and South Main Village have their own character and tend to attract a more local crowd. If you're near TCU, John's Grill is a convenient stop. For a bigger show experience, Tannahill's and Magnolia Motor Lounge are the spots booking well-known touring and regional acts. And if you just want to two-step on a weeknight, Hoot's has live music four nights a week with a dance floor built for it.
